Strategic communicator. Technology integrator. Energy efficiency insider.
I lead marketing and communications programs that move organizations — and industries — forward. With eight years at the Building Performance Association, I've built the campaigns, the coalitions, the roadmaps, and the tech infrastructure that advance residential energy efficiency at the national level. My work has been cited in Forbes, the Wall Street Journal, NPR, Bloomberg Law, and Politico.
Deep knowledge of residential energy efficiency programs, home performance, weatherization, and clean energy policy at federal and state levels.
IRA, 25C tax credit, Weatherization Assistance Program, Home Energy Rebate Programs, state energy offices, DOE relationships, and federal appropriations advocacy.
Fluent communicator with DOE, state energy agencies, utilities, 30+ national allied organizations, clean energy partners, HVAC contractors, and home performance professionals.
Co-developed microlearnings and curriculum for the EE workforce. Led marketing for state-based contractor training and apprenticeship programs across multiple states.
I'm Katie Miller — a marketing and communications director who has spent eight years at the heart of the residential energy efficiency movement. At the Building Performance Association, I've built the programs, the coalitions, the roadmaps, and the infrastructure that help this industry grow, communicate, and advocate at the national level.
I operate at the intersection of strategy and execution. I develop multi-year communications roadmaps, write sign-on letters defending the 25C tax credit, brief the CEO before he takes the stage, and build the Zapier automations that deliver campaigns at scale. I authored BPA's organizational AI policy, integrated AI tools across the full marketing and technology stack, and am self-teaching Python for member data reporting.
My work spans the full spectrum: grassroots advocacy campaigns mobilizing thousands of contractors across all 50 states; a member program grown to $16.4M in annual sales; an email program beating the nonprofit industry average on every metric; a flagship national conference netting $3.1M in revenue; grant-funded state-based workforce programs in PA, Maine, Arizona, Nevada, and Massachusetts; and the full technology infrastructure that makes it all run.
I've also contributed at the organizational leadership level — informing board strategy, authoring internal frameworks, reviewing grant proposals, and leading cross-functional teams. I know this industry from the inside out and I'm looking for my next chapter at a larger organization where I can bring all of it to a bigger stage.
"The marketing director who can run the conference, write the advocacy brief, build the automation, and teach the team how to use AI — all while knowing exactly why the 25C tax credit matters."
That's the job. That's what I do.A focused look at the work that defines my practice — each one a program built, a campaign led, or a result delivered.
Helped design and launch BPA's Home Depot member affinity program — then built the roadmap and scaled it over eight years through annual acquisition campaigns, event integration, deeper member penetration, and an expanding partnership with Home Depot. Part of a broader suite of member programs I've built, promoted, and managed to drive membership value and engagement.
Grassroots communications lead for dozens of federal and state advocacy campaigns over eight years — mobilizing thousands of contractors and stakeholders across all 50 states through email, text, social, policy alerts, member webinars, lobby days, and partner/ally outreach using Quorum. Specific wins include: 1,000+ contractor sign-ons defending the 25C tax credit with 42 congressional meetings; 750 signatures across all 50 states to Secretary Wright on Home Energy Rebates; and FY2026 appropriations securing WAP at $369M, RBI at $65M, and EPA ENERGY STAR at $33M. Also led comms for Maryland EmPOWER advocacy with 7 direct legislative meetings and a senate hearing appearance.
Since 2019, served as comms, marketing, and onsite experiential lead for the National Home Performance Conference & Trade Show — the industry's flagship annual event with 3,000+ attendees, a full trade show floor, 150+ educational sessions, onsite activations, signage, and networking events. Full ownership from brand development, call for proposals, and lead generation through sponsorship deliverables, event app management, CEO script writing, parties, and on-site production.
Grew BPA's email list from 16,821 contacts in January 2021 to nearly 30,000 in 2026 — a 78% increase — through strategic list building, audience segmentation, and disciplined list hygiene. Rebuilt the program's performance through refined messaging, layout redesign, and A/B testing to achieve results that beat the nonprofit industry average on every key metric. Intentional hygiene cleanups in 2022 and 2023 reflect a focus on list quality over vanity numbers.
Led multi-channel marketing and outreach for grant-funded, DOE/PNNL-connected workforce and contractor programs across multiple states. Pennsylvania: overseeing marketing, website development, and creative direction for PA-TREC — the first state in the nation to launch this contractor training program — in partnership with the PA Dept of Environmental Protection. Maine Clean Energy Partnership: full marketing campaign including on-the-ground job seeker outreach, building science training, content series, and Energy Entrepreneur Training development. Arizona (CCAE): contractor outreach, policy newsletters, and op-ed placement supporting IRA Home Energy Rebate rollout. Also led campaigns in Nevada and helped stand up pilot apprenticeship programs in Massachusetts with IREC.
Writer, communications lead, and creative director on industry-defining publications including the Energy Efficiency Jobs in America report (2024 & 2025) — contributing to writing, data analysis, design, layout, and PR. Communications lead on multiple national research reports. Managed BPA Journal content strategy and promotion, growing views 24.8% YoY to 41,705 in 2025 through contractor-targeted, value-driven editorial. Produced annual Impact Report. Led full BPA rebrand and organizational restructuring communications. Authored the People Centered Practices communications framework.
